| This book is dedicated to the old-timers who pioneered
this country and lived with the original inhabitants. I spent
many hours drawing out facts on the lifestyle of the Mohave Indians
from these pioneers. One of my informants was nearly ninety when
I talked to him in the late
1930's. He had left a freight wagon as a teenager because his
boss
had beaten him. For several years thereafter he lived with the
Mohave
Indians in their camps. From sources such as this, I was able to
get
details of Mohave life which a casual observer could never have seen.
The Mohaves were large, fat, powerful people. They
were peace-loving and agricultural, and, unlike most Indian tribes,
they accepted
