Museum Tour - INDIAN RUGS

Navajo Rugs
Continue Tour
Most of the rugs in the collection are woven by Navajo Indians who were sheep herders.  The wool from their white, brown and black sheep was used in making rugs, other colors were created by dying the wool with berries and natural plants.  The rugs were woven on home-made looms in bold geometric motifs and zig-zag patterns.
